Owl on the Metabunker

I send Owl to Matthias Wivel, guardian of comics, He gave me some pointers to what I needed to work on, which I'm very greatful for and he posted the comic on his very worth while blog Metabunker, It was kind of a while ago, so you may have to search the archive for it. I got some good response on it because of that posting+ some new friends on Myspace (thanks for the add Simon Bukhave!)

Aurehøj

A folder and letterhead, part of the identity made for Aurehøj high school in Denmark. the school already had a logo, a very fine drawing an artist made of a chestnut tree on the school grounds. The drawing was so detailed that it didn't work well when used outside a logo context fore exampel as ornamentation on stationary, so I saw my challenge as making a secondary logo that would supplement the existing one, by being applicable in many different contexts.

Fordærv

About 3 years ago myself and Patrick Ringsborg round up a number of danish cartoonists in a joint effort to celebrate zombism. the result was a Fanzine by the name Fordærv -flesheaters fanzine. unfortunately distribution proved to be a real problem for us, and I still have about 1500copies of the 2000 print run stashed in my sisters basement in Copenhagen. If you would like to get your hands on one of these excellent zines. I charge 24 danish kroner (£2.5 a copy) paypal-style, and a english translation can be supplied. Artists includes myself, Patrick, Cav Bøgelund, Asbjørn Skou, Emil Wissing, Anders B? The publication was nominated as best debut of 2003 at Komiks.dk (a bit silly since it was a fanzine, but a nice gesture). a very fair review can be found here (in danish)

Husforbi

Two illustrations done for 'Husforbi' (July Issue) the danish equivalent of british homeless paper 'BIG ISSUE', the concept is that homeless people can sell the paper, and then get 40% of the money which they earn doing it. The concept is developed by a former Central Saint Martins student. the circulation of the danish version is 63.000 per month.
The illustrations where commissioned for an essay by Martin Snoer Raaschou -a danish poet and writer, who I've worked with on different occasions, his piece was on how asylum seekers are treated in Denmark.
The flag illustration shows the danish flag, lain out like the plan of a house and illustrates a passage where Martin tells us about a family of who live in a four room house, but are only allowed, by auhorities to use two. and how they all sleep in one room in order to by able to have guests over so they can have a social life, an important part of any normal life. It is a powerful piece, and I was glad that I got to illustrate it.

Note to reader

My main objective with this blog is to publish illustration and narrative work I do, not just to show off, but as a way of having a platform, even if modest, for publishing my work and give me movtivation to do new work, even if there isn't an anthology, fanzine or illustration commision to do so. My motives are very selfish, so sometimes you might find that I won't go to great lengths to growdplease, but I take comfort in that if do what I like well enough someone else might get a few kicks out of it aswell.
